Translation
Al-Souli’s book “The Papers, Department of Poets’ News” provides a close look at the history of Arabic literature in the Abbasid era, mixing poetry and political events. The book deals with the biographies of Abbasid poets contemporary with the caliphs, with a focus on the relationships between poets and rulers and their political events. The book constitutes an important document of Arab literature and history, as it combines poetic material with historical stories of prominent Arab figures in the Abbasid era.
