كتاب البُخلاء كتاب دوّن فيه أبو عثمان عمرو بن بحر الجاحظ بعض صور البُخل في الذين قابلهم وتعرف عليهم في بيئته الخاصة خصوصًا في بلدة مرو عاصمة خراسان، وقد صور الجاحظ البخلاء تصويراً واقعياً حسياً نفسياً فكاهياً، وثق فيه حركاتهم ونظراتهم القلقة أو المطمئنة ونزواتهم النفسية، وفضح أسرارهم وخفايا منازلهم وأطلع القراء على مختلف أحاديثهم، وكشف عن نفسياتهم وأحوالهم جميعاً. أول من درس نصّ البخلاء هو المستشرق فان فلوتن سنة 1900م. …
Translation
The Book of Misers is a book in which Abu Othman Amr bin Bahr Al-Jahiz recorded some images of miserliness among those he met and got to know in his own environment, especially in the town of Marv, the capital of Khorasan. Al-Jahiz depicted misers in a realistic, sensual, psychological, and humorous way. He documented their movements, their anxious or reassuring looks, and their psychological whims. He exposed their secrets and the secrets of their homes and informed the readers of their various conversations, revealing all of their psyches and conditions. The first person to study the text of misers was the orientalist Van Vleuten in 1900 AD. …
