الشِّعر والشُّعراء من أقدم الكتب التي صنِّفت في تراجم الشعراء. ألَّفه أبو محمد عبدالله بن مسلم بن قتيبة الدينوري (ت 276هـ، 889م) أحد أئمة القرن الثالث الهجري. وهو من طبقة الجاحظ عند المعتزلة، إمام متمكن متعدد جوانب التأليف كثير المؤلَّفات. كتاب الشعر والشعراء من أهم الكتب التي ترجمت للشعراء. ويُعدُّ مصدرًا أصيلاً ومرجعًا هامًّا في بابه. وهو كبير الشّبه بكتاب طبقات فحول الشعراء لابن سلاّم الجمحي. لم يحرص ابن قتيبة في هذا الكتاب على استيفاء الشعراء وحَصْرهم وتقصّي سيرهم فحسب، بل اقتصر على المشاهير منهم. …
Translation
Poetry and poets are among the oldest books compiled in biographies of poets. It was written by Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Muslim bin Qutaybah Al-Dinouri (d. 276 AH, 889 AD), one of the imams of the third century AH. He was from the Al-Jahiz class among the Mu'tazilites, a skilled imam with many aspects of his writing. The Book of Poetry and Poets is one of the most important books translated by poets. It is considered an authentic source and an important reference in its field. It is very similar to the book Tabaqat Fahl al-Shu'ara' by Ibn Salam al-Jumahi.
