About this work
العقد الفريد هو كتاب من تأليف ابن عبد ربه الأندلسي (ت. 328 هـ)، يعتبر من أمهات كتاب الأدب العربي. ويشتمل الكتاب على جملة من الأخبار والأمثال والحكم والمواعظ والأشعار وغيرها. وقد سُمي بـ «العقد» لأن ابن عبد ربه قسّمه إلى أبواب أو كتب حمل كل منها اسم حجر كريم، كالزبرجدة والمرجانة والياقوتة والجمانة واللؤلؤة، وغير ذلك مما تناول عقود الحسان الحقيقية.
Translation
Al-Iqd Al-Farid is a book written by Ibn Abd Rabbuh Al-Andalusi (d. 328 AH), considered one of the forefathers of Arabic literature. The book includes a number of news, proverbs, wisdom, sermons, poems, and more. It was called “The Contract” because Ibn Abd Rabbo divided it into chapters or books, each of which bore the name of a precious stone, such as the peridot, the coral, the ruby, the gem, the pearl, and other things that dealt with the true contracts of Al-Hassan.
