الفرج بعد الشدة هو كتاب ألفه القاضي التنوخي وأورد فيه الكثير من الأخبار والقصص وبناه على 14 باباً. وكتاب التنوخي ليس الكتاب الوحيد الذي يحمل هذا الاسم كما أشار مؤلفه في المقدمة حيث ذكر أن أول من سمى كتاباً بهذا العنوان هو أبو الحسن المدائني، ثم ابن أبي الدنيا ثم القاضي أبو حسين. وقال: «ووجدتُ أبا بكر ابن أبي الدنيا، والقاضي أبا الحسين، لم يذكرا أن للمدائني كتاباً في هذا المعنى، فإن لم يكونا عرفا هذا، فهو طريف، وإن كانا تعمدا ترك ذكره تنفيقاً لكتابيهما وتغطية على كتاب الرجل، فهو أطرف،...»

Translation

Relief after Distress is a book written by Judge Al-Tanukhi, in which he included a lot of news and stories and divided it into 14 chapters. Al-Tanukhi’s book is not the only book that bears this name, as its author indicated in the introduction, where he mentioned that the first person to name a book with this title was Abu Al-Hasan Al-Madaini, then Ibn Abi Al-Dunya, then Al-Qadi Abu Hussein. He said: “I found that Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Al-Dunya and the judge Abu Al-Hussein did not mention that Al-Madaini had a book with this meaning. If they did not know this, then it is funny, and if they deliberately left out mentioning it out of misuse of their books and covering up the man’s book, then it is funnier...”
