مقامات بديع الزمان الهمذاني ، أول كتاب ألف في فن المقامات، إلا أنه لم يلق ما لقيته مقامات الحريري من العناية بشرحها وتفسير غريبها لأسباب يعرفها من نظر في مقامات بديع الزمان ورسائله كالرسالة رقم 167، فضاع القسم الأكبر منها ولم يبق من أصل 400 مقامة هي مجموع الكتاب سوى 52 مقامة، عاث بها النساخ كما يقول الأستاذ الإمام محمد عبده: (بما أفسد المبنى وغير المعنى مع زيادات تضر بالأصول وتذهب بالذهن عن المعقول، ونقص يُهزّع الأساليب وينقض بنيان التراكيب، فالناظر فيها إن كان ضعيفاً ضل وحار، وإن كان عرّيفاً لم يأمن العثار). …

Translation

The Maqamat of Badi al-Zaman al-Hamdhani, the first book written on the art of Maqamat. However, it did not receive the care given to the Maqamat al-Hariri in explaining it and interpreting its strangeness, for reasons known to anyone who has looked at the Maqamat of Badi al-Zaman and his letters, such as letter No. 167. The largest part of it was lost, and only 52 remained of the 400 Maqamats that make up the total book. The copyists destroyed them, as Professor Imam Muhammad Abduh says: (With what corrupted the structure and changed the meaning with extras. It harms the principles and takes the mind away from the intelligible, and a deficiency shakes the methods and destroys the structure of the structures, so if the one looking into it is weak, he is lost and confused, and if he is a knowledgeable person, he is not safe from stumbling. …
