من غاب عنه المطرب هي كتاب بقلم الثعالبي النيسابوري. كتاب في الاختيارات الشعرية، يعتبر بمثابة الذيل لكتاب الثعالبي (أحسن ما سمعت) لاتفاق الكتابين في المنهج والمادة والأسلوب، ولافتتاحه معظم فصوله بقوله: (أحسن ما سمعت في هذا ) ويرجح أن الثعالبي ألفه بعد الفراغ من اليتيمة، ولم يكن أبو العلاء فيما يبدو قد اشتهر أثناء تأليف الثعالبي كتابه (أحسن ما سمعت) فلم يأت فيه على ذكر أبي العلاء، بينما نجده مهتماً بشعر أبي العلاء في كتابه (من غاب عنه المطرب) مما يدل أنه من كتبه المتأخرة. …
Translation
The One Who Missed the Singer is a book written by Al-Thaalabi Al-Nisaburi. A book on poetic selections, which is considered the appendix to Al-Tha’alabi’s book (The Best What I Heard) because the two books agree in approach, material and style, and because it opens most of its chapters by saying: (The best I have heard about this). It is likely that Al-Tha’alabi wrote it after finishing the orphanage. Abu Al-Ala did not seem to have become famous during Al-Tha’alabi’s writing of his book (The Best What I Heard), so he did not mention Abu Al-Ala in it, while we find him interested in Abu Al-Ala’s poetry in his book (Who Was Absent from Him).
