Translation
This is a book on linguistics written by the British linguist John Lyons, and it is intended for intellectuals and specialists alike. The first part deals with five basic chapters in purely descriptive linguistics. It begins with the definition of language and its nature, then reviews the branches of linguistics and its methodology, moves on to the study of language sounds and its grammatical rules, and concludes with research in semantics.
