يعد كتاب "الردة" للواقدي من المصادر التاريخية المهمة التي تناولت فترة حروب الردّة التي اعقبت وفاة النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم. يركز الكتاب على وصف الأحداث والوقائع التي حدثت خلال تلك الفترة، معتمداً على سرد الأخبار والتقارير التاريخية. كما يحتوي الكتاب على شعر كثير يتجاوز التسعمائة بيتاً، يمثل الفروسية والبطولة العربية، وهو شعر لشعراء مغمورين لم يعرفوا بقول الشعر، نشأ جلهم من مقاتلين ارتجالوا أشعارهم في سياق الحروب والنزالات، مما يعطي صورة حية عن تلك الفترة التاريخية.
Translation
The book “Apostasy” by Al-Waqidi is one of the important historical sources that dealt with the period of the apostasy wars that followed the death of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace. The book focuses on describing the events and facts that occurred during that period, relying on historical news and reports. The book also contains a lot of poetry, exceeding nine hundred lines, representing horsemanship and Arab heroism. It is poetry by unknown poets who were not known for writing poetry. Most of them originated from fighters who improvised their poetry in the context of wars and battles, which gives a vivid picture of that historical period.
