كتاب المختصر في أخبار البشر لإسماعيل أبي الفداء هو عمل عن تاريخ العالم منذ بدء الخلق وحتى عام 732هـ (1331م)، وهو العام الذي توفي فيه المؤلف. كان أبو الفداء رجل دولة ومؤرخاً وجغرافياً وراعياً للحياة الفكرية في مدينة حماة السورية. ويكتسب العمل في الوقت الحاضر قيمة خاصة نسبةً لوصفه للمدينة في القرنين الثالث عشر والرابع عشر. كُرِّس المجلد الأول من هذه الطبعة ذات المجلدات الأربعة لتاريخ أنبياء الأديان السماوية وحياة النبي محمد عليه افضل الصلاة واتم التسليم وصحابته الاكرمين الأولين. أما المجلدات اللاحقة فهي تروي تاريخ الممالك الإسلامية والحكام والشخصيات الفكرية البارزة. …

The book Al-Mukhtasar fi Akhbar al-Bashar by Ismail Abi Al-Fida is a work on the history of the world from the beginning of creation until the year 732 AH (1331 AD), which is the year in which the author died. Abu Al-Fida was a statesman, historian, geographer, and patron of intellectual life in the Syrian city of Hama. Nowadays, the work acquires special value due to its description of the city in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The first volume of this four-volume edition is devoted to the history of the prophets of the heavenly religions and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, may the best prayers and peace be upon him, and his first honorable companions. The subsequent volumes narrate the history of Islamic kingdoms, rulers, and prominent intellectual figures. …
