About this work
كتاب «فتوح الشام» للواقدي هو مؤلف تاريخي يروي تفاصيل الفتوحات الإسلامية في بلاد الشام منذ عهد أبي بكر الصديق وحتى فتوحات خالد بن الوليد وعمر بن العاص، مستنداً إلى روايات متعددة من الصحابة والتابعين. يشتمل الفهرس على معارك متعددة، وصايا، وحكايات بطولات النساء، إضافة إلى نصوص من خطب ورسائل، ما يعكس التركيز على السرد العسكري والفقهي للفتح. يفتتح المجلد الأول بتمهيد ديني يذكر فيه الإمام الواقدي ما سمعه من روايات حول بدء الفتوحات، مستشهداً بآيات قرآنية وأحاديث نبوية.
Translation
The book “Conquests of the Levant” by Al-Waqidi is a historical work that narrates the details of the Islamic conquests in the Levant from the era of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq until the conquests of Khalid bin Al-Walid and Omar bin Al-Aas, based on multiple narrations from the Companions and followers. The catalog includes multiple battles, testaments, and tales of women’s heroism, in addition to texts from speeches and letters, reflecting the focus on the military and jurisprudential narrative of the conquest. The first volume opens with a religious introduction in which Imam Al-Waqidi mentions the narratives he heard about the beginning of the conquests, citing Qur’anic verses and prophetic hadiths.
