Manners from waking up until leaving the house
Translation
When you wake up, know that Allah has restored your soul. Be grateful and read: 'Alhamdulillahilladzi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihin nushur.' Remember Allah before opening your eyes.
Commentary
Al-Ghazali spiritualized daily routines. Sleep = small death (QS Az-Zumar: 42). Waking up = the blessings of life returned. Remembering Allah before opening your eyes = training your heart to always be with Allah. This is the practice of ihsan: worship as if you see Allah.
