Welcome to the study of authentic hadith selected by ULYAH. Let's look at some of the following sayings of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, one by one, with an open heart to put them into practice. 1st Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ God willing يَقُولُ لاَ يَقْطَعُ الصَّلاَةَ شَىْءٌ مِمَّا يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَىِ الْمُصَلِّي ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Ibnu Shihab] from [Salim bin Abdullah] that [Abdullah bin Umar] said; "A person's prayer cannot be interrupted because of someone passing in front of him (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 370.) 2nd hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، أَنَّ God willing ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Hisyam bin Urwah], that [His father] prayed in the desert without any barriers (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 372.) 3rd Hadith. Allah's blessings God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. God willing جَبْهَتِهِ مَسْحًا خَفِيفًا ‏.‏. Has told me Yahya from Malik from [Abu Ja'far Al Qari], that he said; "I saw [Abdullah bin Umar] when he fell prostrate, rubbing the pebbles for his forehead with light strokes (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 373.) 4th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّهُ God bless you مَسْحَةً وَاحِدَةً وَتَرْكُهَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ حُمْرَ ‏.‏. It has been told to me that Malik from [Yahya bin Sa'id] has reached him, that [Abu Dzar] said; "Wiping a pebble is enough to rub once. While leaving it alone is better than a red camel (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 374.) 5th Hadith. God willing God bless you فَإِذَا جَاءُوهُ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَنْ قَدِ اسْتَوَتْ كَبَّرَ ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Nafi'] that [Umar bin Khatthab] ordered the rows to be straightened. If they come and tell him that the rows are straight, then he will take takbir (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 375.) 6th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي سُهَيْلِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ God bless you God willing الْحَصْبَاءَ بِنَعْلَيْهَ وَكَلَهُمْ بِتَسْوِيَةِ الصُّفُوفِ ‏.‏ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَنَّ God willing ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ ‏.‏. Has told me from Malik from his uncle [Abu Suhail bin Malik] from [his father] that he said; "I was once with [Uthman bin Affan], and the iqamah was said, while I was still talking to him, asking him to give an obligation. And I kept talking to him while he was smoothing the gravel with his two sandals. So when several men who were given the task of straightening the rows came and told him that the rows were straight, he said to me, 'Straighten the rows.' After that he said takbir (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 376.) 7th Hadith. God willing God bless you God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace God willing الْفِطْرِ وَالاِسْتِينَاءُ بِالسَّحُورِ ‏.‏. Has told me Yahya from Malik from [Abdul Karim bin Abu Al Mukhariq Al Bashri] that he said; "Among the sayings of the Prophets are: if you are not ashamed, then do as you wish. Cross your arms when praying by placing your right hand on top of your left hand, hasten when breaking the fast and ending sahur (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 377.) 8th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، God willing God bless you God bless you. لاَ أَعْلَمُ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ يَنْمِي ذَلِكَ ‏.‏. It has been related to me from Malik from [Abu Hazim bin Dinar] from [Sahal bin Sa'ad] that he said; "The people are commanded that a man should place his right hand over his left hand during prayer." Abu Hazim said, "I don't know about Sahl bin Sa'd except that he narrated it in a marfu (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 378.) 9th Hadith. God willing God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Nafi'] that [Abdullah bin Umar] never performs qunut in prayer (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 379.) 10th Hadith. God bless you God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. يَؤُمُّ أَصْحَابَهُ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَوْمًا فَذَهَبَ God bless you God bless you, God bless you ‏ "‏ إِذَا أَرَادَ God willing ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Hisyam bin Urwah] from [his father] that [Abdullah bin Al Arqam] became the imam of his companions. One day when it was time for prayer, he went to relieve himself, when he returned he said; "I heard Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam say: "If one of you wants to relieve himself, let him put it first before praying (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 380.) 11th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، أَنَّ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing وَهُوَ ضَامٌّ بَيْنَ وَرِكَيْهِ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Zaid bin Aslam] that [Umar bin Khatthab] said; "None of you should pray with his thighs together (i.e. holding his thighs together to hold back defecation) (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 381.) 12th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، God bless you may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God bless you لَمْ يُحْدِثِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏. It has been told to me by Yahya from Malik from [Abu Az Zinad] from [Al A'raj] from [Abu Hurairah], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "The angel prays for one of you while he is still in his place of prayer, and as long as he has not had his prayer: 'ALLAHUMMAGHFIR LAHU, ALLAHUMMARHAMHU' (O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him) '." Malik said; "I do not see the words, 'as long as he has not had hadats' but rather hadats that can invalidate ablution (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 382.) 13th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ God willing الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَزَالُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي صَلاَةٍ مَا God willing إِلَى أَهْلِهِ إِلاَّ الصَّلاَةُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Abu Az Zinad] from [Al A'raj] from [Abu Hurairah] that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "One of you will remain in the number of prayers as long as the prayer is what holds him back. Nothing prevents him from returning home to his family other than prayer (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 383.) 14th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ سُمَىٍّ، مَوْلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرْ God willing لِيَتَعَلَّمَ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيُعَلِّمَهُ ثُمَِ بَيْتِهْ غَانِمًا ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Sumayya] Abu Bakr's former slave, that [Abu Bakar bin Abdurrahman] said; "Whoever goes in the morning or evening to the mosque, he has no other intention except the mosque, to learn goodness or teach it, then he returns to his house. Then he is like someone who strives for jihad in the way of Allah; he returns home with ghanimah (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 384.) 15th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God willing God bless you God bless you حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ ‏.‏. Has told me from Malik from [Nu'aim bin Abdullah Al Mujmir] that he heard [Abu Hurairah] say; "When one of you prays, then sits down at his prayer place. Surely the Angels always pray for him: ALLAHUMMAGHFIR LAHU, ALLAHUMMARHAMHU (O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him). If he gets up from his prayer place and sits in the mosque to wait for prayer, he is still counted in the prayer until he prays (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 385.) 16th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ God willing "‏ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. وَيَرْفَعُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ عِنْدَ God willing وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَمِ God willing ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Al 'Ala` bin Abdurrahman bin Ya'qub] from [his father] from [Abu Hurairah], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Shall I show you something that can erase sins and elevate your status? Completing ablution in times of difficulty, taking more steps to the mosque and waiting for prayer after prayer. That's like ribath, that's like ribath, that's like ribath (Degree: authentic. God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from ['Amir bin Abdullah bin Az Zubair] from ['Amru bin Sulaim Az Zuraqi] from [Abu Qatadah Al Ansari], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "When one of you enters the mosque, he should pray two rak'ahs before sitting down (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 388.) 18th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، مَوْلَى God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing God bless you God bless you God willing God bless you God bless you مَالِكٌ وَذَلِكَ حَسَنٌ وَلَيْسَ بِوَاجِبٍ ‏.‏. Has told me from Malik from [Abu Nadlar] former slave of Umar bin Ubaidullah, from [Abu Salamah bin Abdurrahman] that he asked; "Didn't I see that when your friend enters the mosque, he sits down before praying two rak'ahs." Abu Nadlar answered; "What Umar bin Ubaidullah meant." Abu Salamah criticized him for this, namely sitting down immediately when entering the mosque before doing two rekaat." Yahya said, Malik said; "That is the law of the sunnah, not an obligation (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 389.) 19th hadith. God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God bless you. God bless you. God willing كَفَّيْهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ بُرْنُسٍ لَهُ حَتَّى يَضَعَهُمَا عَلَى الْحَصْبَاءِ ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Nafi'], that when [Abdullah bin Umar] prostrates, he places the palms of his hands where he rests his forehead." Nafi' said; "On a very cold day I saw him take his palms out of his sarong, then he placed them on a pebble (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 390.) 20th hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ God bless you God willing God willing تَسْجُدَانِ كَمَا يَسْجُدُ الْوَجْهُ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Nafi'] that [Abdullah bin Umar] said; "Whoever places his forehead on the ground, let him place the palms of his hands where he placed his forehead. If he rises, let him raise both of them, because both hands also prostrate as the face prostrates (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 391.) 21st Hadith. Allah's blessings God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing God willing God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing God willing نَعَمْ ‏.‏ فَصَلَّى أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God وَقَفَ فِي الصَّفِّ فَصَفَّقَ النَّاسُ وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لاَ يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلاَتِهِ فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ مِنَ التَّصْفِيقَ may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا أَمَرَهُ بِهِ رَسُولُ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God willing بَكْرٍ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَثْبُتَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مَا كَانَ لاِبْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ مَا لِي God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace God willing ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Abu Hazim Salamah bin Dinar] from [Sahal bin Sa'd As Sa'idi], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam went to Bani 'Amru bin Auf to reconcile them. Then the time for prayer came, then a caller to prayer came to Abu Bakr and asked, "Are you willing to lead the people if I say the iqamah?" Abu Bakr said; "Yes." Abu Bakr then led the people in prayer, and Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam came while the people were praying. Then he entered and stood in the row row. The people clapped (signaled), but Abu Bakr still did not turn around until when many people were clapping, Abu Bakr looked back and saw the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. Then Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam signaled Abu Bakr to stay where he was. Abu Bakr raised both hands while praising Allah for the command of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam to him. Then he stepped back until he was straight along the row, then Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam came forward and prayed. When he finished, he asked: "O Abu Bakr, what prevented you from remaining in your position when I told you to?" Abu Bakr answered; "It is not appropriate for Abu Quhafah's son to lead prayers in front of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam." Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam then said: "Why do I see many of you clapping your hands. Whoever is hit by something during his prayer, let him make tasbih. If he is reminded with prayer beads, he will turn around. Clapping is for women (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 392.) 22nd Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، لَمْ يَكُنْ يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلاَتِهِ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Nafi'], that [Ibn Umar] never turned his head in his prayers (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 393.) 23rd Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْقَارِئِ، God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing وَرَائِي وَلاَ أَشْعُرُ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَغَمَزَنِي ‏.‏. It has been related to me from Malik from [Abu Ja'far Al Qari] that he said; "I was praying and [Abdullah bin Umar] was sitting behind me. But I didn't feel his presence until I looked back. Then Ibn Umar motioned to me (not to look) (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 394.) 24th Hadith. God bless you God willing God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. رُكُوعًا فَرَكَعَ ثُمَّ دَبَّ حَتَّى وَصَلَ الصَّفَّ ‏.‏. Yahya told me from Malik from [Ibnu Shihab] from [Abu Umamah bin Sahal bin Hunaif] that he said, "[Zaid bin Thabit] entered the mosque and found people bowing, then he bowed too. Then Zaid bin Thabit crawled until he reached the row." It has been told to me from Malik that it has reached him, that Abdullah Mas'ud walks on all fours while bowing (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 395.) 25th Hadith. God willing God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings may Allah bless him and give him peace of mind كَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيْتِ may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ كَمَِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏. Has told me Yahya from Malik from [Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Hazm] from [his father] from ['Amru bin Sulaim Az Zuraqi] that he said; "It has been reported to me [Abu Humaid As Sa'idi] that they said: "O Messenger of Allah! How do we pray for you?" He answered: "Read: ALLAHUMMA SHALLI 'ALAA MUHAMMAD, WA AZWAAJIHI WA DZURRIYYATIHI KAMAA SHALLAITA 'ALAA AALI IBRAAHIIM WA BAARIK 'ALAA MUHAMMAD WA AZWAAJIHI WA DZURRIYYATIHI KAMAA BAARAKTA 'ALAA AALI IBRAAHIIM INNAKA HAMIIDUN MAJIID. (O Allah, ask for prosperity for Muhammad and his wives and descendants as you gave prosperity to the family of Ibrahim, and bless Muhammad and his wives and descendants as you blessed the family of Ibrahim, verily You are the Most Praiseworthy and the Most Exalted) (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 397.) 26th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُجْمِرِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنْ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace of mind God willing may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings يَسْأَلْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى God bless you كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing ‏"‏ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Nu'aim bin Abdullah Al Mujmir] from [Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Zaid] that he reported to him, from [Abu Mas'ud Al Ansari] that he said; "The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam came to us at the meeting of Sa'ad bin Ubadah. Then Basyir bin Ubadah asked him: "O Rasulullah! Allah has commanded us to pray for you. So how do we pray for you?" Abu Mas'ud Al Ansari said; "Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam was silent. Until we hope he will not be asked." He then said: "Read: ALLAHUMMA SHALLI 'ALAA MUHAMMAD WA 'ALAA AALI MUHAMMAD KAMAA SHALLAITA 'ALAA IBRAAHIIM WA BAARIK 'ALAA MUHAMMAD WA 'ALAA AALI MUHAMMAD KAMAA BAARAKTA 'ALAA IBRAAHIIM WA 'ALA AALI IBRAAHIIM FIL 'AALAMIINA INNAKA HAMIIDUN MAJIID (O Allah, give prosperity to Muhammad and Muhammad's family as You gave prosperity to Ibrahim and bless Muhammad and Muhammad's family as You blessed Ibrahim and Ibrahim's family, verily You are Most Praiseworthy and Most Noble) while the greeting is as you already know (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 398.) 27th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقِفُ عَم God willing الله عليه وسلم وَعَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ‏.‏. Has told me from Malik from [Abdullah bin Dinar] said; "I saw [Abdullah bin Umar] standing on the grave of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. Then he offered prayers to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, to Abu Bakr and Umar (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 399.) 28th Hadith. God bless you God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَبَعْدَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَبَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَبَعْدَ may Allah bless him and give him peace of mind ‏.‏. Yahya has told me from Malik from [Nafi'] from [Ibn Umar], that Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam prayed two rak'ahs before midday prayer, two rak'ahs after, two rak'ahs after maghrib in his house, and two rak'ahs after the Isha prayer. He did not pray the sunnah prayer after Friday until he had finished, then he prayed two rakat (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 400.) 29th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ God willing God willing, God willing قَالَ ‏ "‏ God فَوَاللَّهِ مَا يَخْفَى عَلَىَّ خُشُوعُكُمْ وَلاَ رُكُوعُكُمْ إِنِّي لأَرَاكُمْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ ظَهْرِي ‏"‏ ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Abu Az Zinad] from [Al A'raj] from [Abu Hurairah], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam asked: "Do you see me here? By Allah, I see your humility and bowing. Indeed I see you from behind me (Degree: authentic. Source: Muwatta Malik no. 401.) 30th Hadith. وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ God willing يَأْتِي قُبَاءً رَاكِبًا وَمَاشِيًا ‏.‏. It has been told to me from Malik from [Nafi'] from [Abdullah bin Umar], that Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam came to Quba by driving and walking (Degree: authentic. It has been told to me from Malik from [Yahya bin Sa'id] from [Nu'man bin bin Murrah], that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam asked: "What do you think about drinkers, thieves and adulterers?" At that time the verse had not yet been revealed to them explaining this. They answered; "Allah and His Messenger know better." He said: "All of these are heinous acts and in them there is punishment. The worst thief is the one who steals while praying." They ask; "O Messenger of Allah, how can someone steal his prayers?" It has been told to me from Malik from [Hisyam bin Urwah] from [his father] from [Aisha] the wife of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Go to Abu Bakr, tell him to pray leading the people." Aisha said; "O Messenger of Allah, indeed, Abu Bakr, if he were to replace you, people would not be able to hear his voice because of his crying. Tell Umar to lead the people." He said: "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people." Aisha said; "I then said to Hafshah, "Tell the Messenger of Allah, that 'if Abu Bakr takes your place, people will certainly not be able to hear his voice because of his crying' standing in your place, they will not be able to hear him because of his crying. Order Umar to lead the people." Hafshah did so. Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "You are like Yusuf's friends! Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people."
