Among the most wondrous favors Allah gave Dawud was the glorification of creation that accompanied his own. Allah said, "And We certainly gave David bounty from Us. [We said], 'O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well].' And We made pliable for him iron" (Qur'an 34:10). Surah Al-Anbiya affirms the same: "โฆand We subjected the mountains and the birds to glorify [Allah] together with David. And it was We who did it" (Qur'an 21:79). Surah Sad even names the times: "Indeed, We subjected the mountains to glorify with him in the evening and after sunrise, and the birds, gathered together, all with him repeatedly turning [to Allah]" (Qur'an 38:18-19). Allah also granted Dawud a scripture: "โฆand to David We gave the Zabur (Psalms)" (Qur'an 17:55). The Zabur contained praise, supplication and remembrance of Allah, matching the beauty of the glorification Allah had bestowed on him. Reflection: Dawud teaches that sincere remembrance can unite a servant's heart with all of creation, which also glorifies its Creator. The most beautiful voice is the one used to magnify Allah. Source & Note: evidence from the Qur'an โ 34:10, 21:79, 38:18-19, and the granting of the Zabur in 17:55 (also 4:163). The famous reports about the beauty of Dawud's voice are widely cited in tafsir; here we limit ourselves to what the Qur'an states plainly: the mountains and birds glorifying with him.
