Episode 3: Arise and Warn

After the first revelation came the command to begin the prophetic mission in earnest: to arise and convey warning to humankind. Allah said, "O you who covers himself [with a garment], Arise and warn, And your Lord glorify, And your clothing purify, And uncleanliness avoid, And do not confer favor to acquire more, But for your Lord be patient" (Qur'an 74:1-7). These verses sum up the task and traits of a caller: to convey warning, to magnify Allah, to keep purity inward and outward, to shun evil, to be sincere without seeking worldly return, and to be patient. So Prophet Muhammad ﷺ began his da'wah — first secretly among those closest to him, then openly to all the Quraysh. He called to the word of tawhid: "La ilaha illallah" — there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. A call gentle in manner yet shaking the order of ignorance that glorified idols, so that the chiefs of Quraysh began to oppose him. Reflection: prophethood is a trust to arise, not to remain still. The capital of da'wah is not power, but sincerity, purity of self, and patience. Great change always begins with a sincere call to tawhid.
