Ulama Nusantara, Teacher of the Great Indonesian Ulemas (d. 1314 H)

Nawawi bin Umar Al-Bantani was born in Tanara, Banten, then studied and taught for decades in Mecca until he was called "Sayyidul Hijaz" by Middle Eastern scholars for the breadth of his knowledge. He wrote more than 100 books in various fields - tafsir, fiqh, tawhid, sufism - many of which are mandatory books for Indonesian Islamic boarding schools to this day, including Tijan Ad-Darari (syarah aqidah) and tafsir Marah Labid. His students in Mecca would later become the founders of large organizations and Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, making it one of the most important scientific links connecting Indonesian ulama with Haramain.
