Chapter 1: Muqaddimah & Pillars of Islam

Pillars of Islam

Translation

There are five pillars of Islam: (1) Testifying that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger, (2) Establishing prayer, (3) Paying zakat, (4) Fasting in Ramadan, (5) Hajj for those who are able.

Commentary

The five pillars of Islam are the foundation of the religion. The shahada is a pledge of faith, prayer is a pillar of religion, zakat is a cleanser of wealth, fasting is a shield from lust, and the hajj is the completion of Islam. Gabriel's hadith is the main argument.

Pillars of Faith

Translation

There are six pillars of faith: (1) Faith in Allah, (2) Angels, (3) Books, (4) Apostles, (5) The Last Day, (6) Good and bad destiny from Allah.

Commentary

The six pillars of faith are the core beliefs of Islam. Faith in destiny does not mean surrender without effort, but rather the belief that everything that happens is within the limits of God's provisions, while humans still have efforts and responsibilities.
