The book “Defending Sin in the Issue of Recitation” by Al-Suyuti is a jurisprudential study that addresses the issue of the supplications mentioned when rising from bowing in prayer, as it explains the Shafi’i doctrine of the desirability of combining the sayings “God hears those who praise Him” and “Our Lord, praise be to You” for the imam, the one praying behind him, and the one praying alone, and it presents the opinions of other schools of thought such as Abu Hanifa, Malik, and Ahmad on this issue. The book is organized into nine sections in which the author presents evidence and jurisprudential discussions about the arguments based on the Prophetic hadiths, such as the hadiths of Abu Hurairah and Aisha, to clarify the most correct opinion on this issue of worship.
