The book “The Criterion of Selection in Mentioning Institutes and Homes” by Al-Lasan al-Din Ibn al-Khatib is concerned with determining the criteria for mentioning places and institutions in geography and travel. It includes chapters dealing with the biography of the author and his evaluation by some orientalists, in addition to a review of his intellectual heritage, including works on the history of Granada, medicine, and literature. The text highlights through its excerpt that Lisan al-Din was an Andalusian minister, doctor, writer, historian, and jurist. He grew up in Granada and received his education from its sheikhs. The book concludes with a series of articles that range between medical, literary, and veterinary topics, reflecting the comprehensiveness of his interests and areas of contributions.
