منهاج الطالبين وعمدة المفتين هو كتاب من أجل مصنفات الإمام النووي، فهو عمدة المفتين ووجهة المستفتين على المذهب الشافعي؛ وذلك لمتانة عبارته وغزارة مادته وتمام إفادته، فقد اعتمد مصنفه في استقاء مادته على المعتمد كما قال: «وقد أكثر أصحابنا رحمهم الله من التصنيف من المبسوطات والمختصرات، وأتقن مختصر» المحرر«للإمام أبي القاسم الرافعي ذي التحقيقات، وهو كثير الفوائد عمدة في تحقيق المذهب معتمد للمفتي وغيره من أولى الرغبات»، ثم قال: «فرأيت اختصاره في نحو نصف حجمه؛ ليسهل حفظه مع ما أضمه إليه إن شاء الله تعالى من النفائس المستجادات».

Translation

Minhaj al-Talibin wa Umdat al-Muftin is a book for the works of Imam al-Nawawi. It is the main source of muftis and the destination for those who ask questions according to the Shafi’i school of thought. This is due to the strength of its expression, the abundance of its material, and the completeness of its usefulness. In deriving its material, his compiler relied on the reliable one, as he said: “Our companions, may God have mercy on them, have multiplied the classification of the simple and abbreviated ones, and he perfected the summary of ‘Al-Muharrar’ by Imam Abu Al-Qasim Al-Rafi’i, the author of investigations, and it has many benefits and is a mainstay in fulfilling the doctrine, approved for the mufti and other first-time desires.” Then he said: “I saw it shortened to about half of its size; So that it will be easy to preserve it, along with the new precious things I will add to it, God willing.
