كتاب "غريب الحديث" لابن الجوزي هو مصنف في علم اللغة ومعاني ألفاظ الحديث النبوي، يندرج تحت تصنيف الغريب والمعاجم ولغة الفقه. يهدف المؤلف إلى تفسير الألفاظ الغريبة والغامضة التي وقعت في كلام النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابه، والتي صارت مجهولة لدى كثير من الناس بسبب اختلاط العرب بالأعاجم وانتشار اللحن. وقد بنى ابن الجوزي كتابه على منهج ترتيب الألفاظ هجائياً بحسب الحروف، مبتدئاً بكتاب الألف ثم الباء، معتمداً في مقدمته على بيان حاجة الناس إلى هذا العلم، ومشيراً إلى جهود من سبقه من العلماء في هذا المجال كأبي عبيد القاسم بن سلام والخطابي وابن قتيبة.

Translation

The book “Gharib al-Hadith” by Ibn al-Jawzi is a work of linguistics and the meanings of the words of the Prophet’s hadith. It falls under the category of strange words, dictionaries, and the language of jurisprudence. The author aims to explain the strange and mysterious words that occurred in the words of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and his companions, which became unknown to many people due to the mixing of Arabs with foreigners and the spread of melody. Ibn al-Jawzi built his book on the method of arranging words alphabetically according to letters, beginning with the book Alif and then Ba, relying in his introduction on an explanation of people’s need for this knowledge, and pointing to the efforts of the scholars who preceded him in this field, such as Abu Ubaid al-Qasim bin Salam, al-Khattabi, and Ibn Qutaybah.
