About this work
Translation
Lisan al-Arab is an Arabic linguistic dictionary compiled by Ibn Manzur al-Ansari (d. 711 AH). Al-Zirakli said in describing the dictionary that its author “collected in it the most important books of the language, so he almost dispensed with them all.” Al-Baalbaki said: It is considered the most famous Arabic dictionary without dispute, because of the vastness of its material, and because it includes a large group of authentic evidence that it derived from the Holy Qur’an, the noble Prophet’s hadith, and Arab proverbs and poetry. Ibn Manzur finished writing it in the year 690 AH.
