هذا الكتاب مختصر من كلام ابن قيم الجوزية، يرد فيه على فرقتي الجهمية والمعطلة اللتين أنكرتا صفات الله تعالى أو أولتها تأويلاً مخالفاً لظاهر النصوص. يبين المؤلف حقيقة التأويل لغة واصطلاحاً، ويفصل القول في آيات الصفات، ويلزم المخالفين بما فروا منه، مؤكداً أن التأويل شر من التعطيل. كما يعالج قضية تقديم العقل على النقل، ويبطل شبهات من زعم تعارضهما، مع إثبات علو الله وفوقيته ونفي التجسيم عنه.

Translation

This book is a summary of the words of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, in which he responds to the Jahmiyyah and Mu`talilah sects who denied the attributes of God Almighty or gave them an interpretation that contradicted the apparent meaning of the texts. The author explains the reality of interpretation linguistically and terminologically, and details the statement on the verses about the attributes, and commits those who disagree with what they escaped from, stressing that interpretation is worse than obstruction. It also addresses the issue of prioritizing reason over transmission, and invalidates the suspicions of those who claim that they contradict each other, while proving the transcendence and supremacy of God and denying his anthropomorphism.
