News of Mecca and its antiquities were written by Al-Hafiz Abu Al-Walid Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Ahmed Al-Azraqi. He is one of the books on the history of Mecca and its antiquities. He provides detailed information about the plans of Mecca, the quarters and wells, and talks about the Noble Sanctuary, its surrounding areas, the rituals connected to it, and other holy places. The book contains historical narratives about the construction of the Kaaba from ancient times until the era of Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf Al-Thaqafi (d. 95 AH/713 AD), as well as the emergence of Mecca, the landing of tribes there, the expansion of urbanization, and the dispersion of nations. Al-Azraqi discussed the virtues of Mecca, many of its places, and the characteristics of some places, in addition to studying a group of verses and hadiths.
