The book “Asceticism” by Abu Dawud al-Sijistani is a book on hadith texts, in which the author collects news and sayings about asceticism and piety narrated from a number of honorable companions, starting with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Omar ibn al-Khattab, and Uthman ibn Ali, may God be pleased with them, all the way to other predecessors. The book falls within the hadith works concerned with collecting hadiths and traces on the subject of asceticism, beginning with excerpts from the words of Jesus, peace be upon him, and news from previous books.
