The book “Musnad of the Commander of the Faithful Abu Hafs Omar Ibn Al-Khattab” by Ibn Kathir is a compilation of hadith texts, collecting hadiths narrated on the authority of Caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him. The book is organized into various jurisprudential sections that begin with purity and end with miracles and virtues. The author cites hadiths with their chains of transmission and mentions the different ways of narrating them. From the beginning of the book, it appears that Ibn Kathir relied on extracting hadiths from their sources, such as the Musnad of Imam Ahmad and Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim, with a comparison between the wording of the narrations.
