Translation

This book is an explanation of “Muwatta’ Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani,” his narration on the authority of Imam Malik, compiled by Imam Abu al-Hasanat al-Laknawi. It falls within the explanations of hadith, and combines jurisprudence and hadith, as the commentator provides in its introduction important benefits about the virtues of the Muwatta and the reason for its name, the translation of Imam Malik, and the various versions of the Muwatta. The book also deals with scholarly discussions on issues related to working on opinion and ijtihad, and addresses some of the criticisms of the Hanafi imams, relying on quotes from major scholars such as Al-Shafi’i, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Al-Dahlawi.
