About this work

Translation

This is a book by Imam al-Dhahabi in which he responds to al-Hafiz Ibn al-Qattan in his book “Bayan al-Whum wa al-Ihlam,” and it belongs to the books of al-Takhrij and al-Zawa’id. The book discusses a number of prophetic hadiths that were criticized by Ibn al-Qattan against al-Hafiz Abu Muhammad. Al-Dhahabi shows what is right and wrong in those criticisms, relying on the rules of criticism, modification, and criticism of narrators. It appears from the introduction that Al-Dhahabi acknowledges Ibn Al-Qattan’s erudition and intelligence, but objects to his strictness and stubbornness towards some narrators and hadiths.
