Translation
Ibn Duraid’s book “Al-Ishtiqāq” deals with a detailed study of the origins of Arabic names and their derivations, focusing on the names of prominent Arab tribes and personalities. The author explains the Arabs' doctrines of naming during pre-Islamic times, and discusses some people's criticism of Arabic naming methods, defending the validity of names and their derivatives. In his book, Ibn Duraid goes beyond the scope of tribes and personalities to also include the names of plants and inanimate objects, focusing on names that may be ambiguous or controversial. The book aims to correct misconceptions about Arabic names and show the beauty and depth of their language.
