التاريخ الكبير هو أحد أبرز كتب أهل السنة والجماعة في الجرح والتعديل وعلم الرجال، ألّفه الإمام محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، صنفه في المدينة النبوية وهو في الثامنة عشرة من عمره. قال البخاري: «فلما طعنت في ثماني عشرة سنة جعلت أصنف قضايا الصحابة والتابعين وأقاويلهم وذلك أيام عبيد الله بن موسى وصنفت كتاب التاريخ إذ ذاك عند قبر النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم في الليالى المقمرة وقل اسم في التاريخ إلا وله عندى قصة.» ويُعد هذا الكتاب من أهم المصادر التي اعتنت بتراجم رواة الحديث النبوي.

Translation

Al-Tarikh Al-Kabir is one of the most prominent books of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah in al-Jarh, al-Ta’deel, and Ilm al-Rijal. It was written by Imam Muhammad bin Ismail al-Bukhari. He wrote it in Medina al-Nabawiyyah when he was eighteen years old. Al-Bukhari said: “When I had passed for eighteen years, I began to compile the cases of the Companions and Followers and their sayings, and that was during the days of Ubayd Allah ibn Musa, and I compiled the book of history at that time at the grave of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, on moonlit nights. There is not a single name in history except that I have a story with it.” This book is considered one of the most important sources for biographies of narrators of the Prophet’s Hadith.
