This book, “The History of the Names of the Weak and Liars,” by Ibn Shaheen, deals with the study of the conditions of narrators in terms of justice and precision, and reviews the sayings of the imams in their evaluation, showing who deserves weakness and lying according to the opinions of the critical scholars of his time. The author relies on the approach he followed in his book “Al-Thiqat” without comment, where he mentions every narrator who was weak by critics, noting that some of the narrators he mentioned in this book even though he touched on them in his previous book due to a difference in their assessment. The book is part of the art of distortion and modification, which is considered one of the arts that distinguished the Islamic nation in order to preserve the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, from distortion and maliciousness.
