تهذيب التهذيب هو كتاب يختص بعلم رجال الحديث النبوي ألفه الحافظ ابن حجر العسقلاني، ويعد هذا الكتاب مختصر لكتاب كبير في أسماء رجال الكتب الستة في الحديث وأحوالهم، ألفه الحافظ عبد الغني المقدسي الحنبلي وأسماه (الكمال في أسماء الرجال) وأودع فيه أقوال الأئمة في رجال الصحيحين والسنن الأربعة، معتمداً على تواريخ البخاري وكتاب ابن أبي حاتم (الجرح والتعديل)، ثم جاء الحافظ المزي فاختصر كتاب الحافظ المقدسي في كتاب جديد أسماه (تهذيب الكمال)، ثم جاء الحافظ ابن حجر العسقلاني من بعد، فاختصره وزاد عليه أشياء فاتتهما وهي كثيرة وعقب عليهما، وسمى مختصره : (تهذيب التهذيب) ثم اختصره في كتاب (تقريب التهذيب). …

Tahdheeb al-Tahdheeb is a book specializing in the knowledge of the narrators of the Prophet’s hadith, written by Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani. This book is considered a summary of a large book on the names of the men of the six books of hadith and their conditions, written by Al-Hafiz Abdul-Ghani Al-Maqdisi Al-Hanbali and called it (Al-Kamal fi Asma Al-Rijal). In it he deposited the sayings of the imams regarding the men of the Two Sahihs and the Four Sunan, relying on the histories of Al-Bukhari and Ibn Abi Hatim’s book (Al-Jarh wal-Ta’deel). Then Al-Hafiz Al-Mizzi came and summarized the book. Al-Hafiz Al-Maqdisi wrote in a new book called (Tahdheeb Al-Kamal), then Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani came later, and he shortened it and added to it things that they had missed, which were many, and he commented on them, and called his summary: (Tahdheeb Al-Tahdheeb), then he summarized it in the book (Taqrib Al-Tahdheeb). …
