Translation
The chapter on the connection between wisdom and law is an Islamic philosophical treatise written by the Andalusian Muslim and philosopher Ibn Rushd (1126–1198), in which he "examines the alleged tension between philosophy and religion" and concludes that in fact philosophy (in particular, Aristotle's philosophy) is not opposed to but in fact works alongside Islamic philosophy. In the essay, Ibn Rushd argues that some Muslims are obligated to study philosophy, and that this subject should be considered an Islamic science. The essay also contains several other unique insights, including Ibn Rushd's assertion "that the Qur'an must sometimes be read in a non-literal way." …
