About this work

Translation

This is a book on the sciences of the Qur’an, written by Ibn Qutaybah al-Dinouri to ward off the suspicions and appeals raised by atheists about the Holy Qur’an, explaining and clarifying the aspects of the problem in it. The author begins by explaining what God has bestowed upon the Arabs in terms of clarification and the breadth of metaphor, then responds to those who challenge the aspects of the readings, and refutes the claims of melody, contradiction, and difference in the Qur’an. He devotes chapters to explaining metaphor, metaphor, reversal, deletion, abbreviation, repetition of speech, metonymy, and exposition, and the apparent contradiction of the word to its meaning, such as using the word “command,” which is for threat or permissibility, and the generality of the word with the intention of specificity.
