Othman said to him: What is the matter with you? He said: The Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - said: “When you see people being praised, throw dust on their faces.” Narrated by Muslim. These hadiths contain prohibitions, and there are many authentic hadiths regarding permissibility. The scholars said: The way to combine the hadiths is to say: If the one being praised has perfect faith and certainty, self-control, and complete knowledge such that he is not tempted or deceived. Thus, he should not play with himself, for it is neither forbidden nor reprehensible, and if any of these matters are feared for him, he will dislike praising him to his face with extreme hatred, and he In this detail, various hadiths are revealed regarding this matter. Among what has been stated as permissible is his saying - may God bless him and grant him peace - to Abu Bakr - may God be pleased with him: “I hope that you will be one of them,” that is, one of those who are called from all the gates of Paradise to enter it. In the other hadith: “You are not one of them”: that is, you are not one of those who let down their garments out of arrogance. And he - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - said to Omar - may God be pleased with him: “Satan never sees you behaving in a rude manner except that he behaves in a manner other than yours.” There are many hadiths regarding permissibility, and I mentioned a number of their aspects in the book “Al-Adhkar”.
