And recall when Ibrahim, together with Ismail (Ishmael), raised the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah), both praying, "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing" (2:127). A great work they did not for fame, but wholly as an offering they hoped would be accepted. They continued their prayer, "Our Lord, make us both submitting to You, and make of our descendants a nation submitting to You, and show us our rites [of worship], and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful" (2:128). "Our Lord, send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise" (2:129). Ibrahim also prayed that Mecca be made secure and its people provided with fruits (cf. Qur'an 14:37). Reflection: Ibrahim's greatest legacy was not a building of stone but a prayer that pierced the ages โ a house of pure monotheism and a plea for a messenger to come, which Allah later answered by sending Prophet Muhammad from his descendants.
