Uwais Al-Qarani

أُوَيْس الْقَرَنِيّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ

Tabi'in whom the Prophet ﷺ loved without ever meeting

Uwais Al-Qarani lives in Yemen and never had the opportunity to meet the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in person because of his obligation to care for his mother who was old and paralyzed. The Prophet ﷺ once said to his friends that in the future there would be a tabi'in named Uwais whose prayers would be very effective, and told Umar bin Khattab RA to ask for forgiveness from him when he met him - an extraordinary virtue for someone who had never even been a direct friend of the Prophet. His story is an example that closeness to Allah is not always measured by physical closeness, but by sincerity and devotion.

Hidden Guardian

Uwais bin Amir Al-Qarani, from Yemen, a tabi'in who did not have the opportunity to meet the Prophet ﷺ because he was devoted to caring for his mother. Even though he was unknown to the people of the earth, he was famous in the heavens for his piety and devotion.

The Prophet's will to Umar

The Prophet ﷺ advised Umar and Ali, if they meet Uwais, ask him to ask for forgiveness for them, because his prayer is effective. When Umar met him, he asked Uwais to pray for him - an example that glory with Allah is not in popularity.

Devotion to Mother Above All

Uwais was willing to give up the opportunity to meet the Prophet ﷺ in order to serve his elderly mother - making him a symbol of the virtues of Birrul Walidain. He died, according to some reports, in battle with Ali.
