Stories of the Prophets

Prophet Hud

هُود عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام

Prophet of 'Ad

Hud AS was sent to the people of 'Ad, a nation known for being physically strong and building magnificent buildings, but arrogant and worshiping idols. When they continued to deny it, Allah destroyed them with a powerful wind that hit them for days, while Hud and the believers were saved. His story is told specifically in Surah Hud and Surah Al-Ahqaf as a warning against the arrogance of worldly power.

1

The mighty people of Ahqaf

The people of Ad lived in Ahqaf, the mountains in the mountains of Yemen, after the people of Noah, and they built a mighty city, "Iram, which has high buildings, as has never been built in other countries." The power made them proud, "Who is stronger than us?"

2

The call of Hud and the pride of his people

Hud reminded him of the grace of Allah, the mighty body, the vast land, and the position as a substitute for the people of Noah. He did not ask for any reward. But the rulers accused him of being unwise and a liar. They said, “It is the same for us whether you advise us or not.”

The wind destroys.

When the punishment came, they saw the clouds come near the valley and rained it, but it was a very cold and strong wind, which rained for seven nights and eight days in a row, until the people were swirling like sprinkled pebbles.Hud and the believers were saved by the mercy of Allah.

4

The story of Abraham

Physical strength, building technology, and the success of civilization mean nothing before God when accompanied by arrogance. The wind — an invisible creature — is enough to crush the people who ask “who is stronger than us”.
