"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or be silent." The message of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam in this authentic hadith is only eleven words in the translation, but if one community implements it, half of the world's conflicts will end. Oral speech is a blessing that is most often forgotten to be taken care of. It is small, has no bones, but according to the scholars, it causes the most damage to humans. When Mu'adz bin Jabal asked the Prophet whether people were tortured because of their words, he replied: "Aren't people dragged to hell on their faces for nothing other than the harvest of their words?" Every word is recorded - "Not a single word is uttered unless there is a supervising angel at his side who is always present" (QS Qaf: 18). In this day and age, "spoken" is no longer just in the mouth. Fingers that type statuses, comments and short messages are second words that have a farther reach and a more lasting trace. Ghibah is no longer whispered on the terrace of the house โ it can be shared thousands of times a night. Namimah, slander, blame and insults now have a send button. However, the definition of backbiting from the Prophet still applies: calling your brother something he hates - "if it is true for him, you have backbited him; if it is not true, you have slandered him" (HR Muslim). Islam offers clear discipline. Before speaking or typing, consider three things: is it true, is it useful, and is it a good time? If you pass all three, convey it in the best way. When in doubt, keep quiet โ and silence is not defeat; The Prophet said, "Who guarantees for me what is between his two jaws and his two legs, I guarantee heaven for him" (HR Bukhari). A sound word that is awake is not a word that is silent, but a word that has value in every word: honest words, gentle advice, sincere prayers, and moist remembrance.
