Episode 8: The Vow of Iblis and the Servants Who Are Protected

After refusing to prostrate and receiving the curse, Iblis did not repent — instead he declared war on the children of Adam. He said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on the earth, and I will mislead them all" (Qur'an 15:39). Yet that vow carried one crucial exception, spoken by Iblis himself, "except, among them, Your chosen (sincere) servants" (15:40). In Surah Sad he swore, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all, except, among them, Your chosen servants" (38:82-83). So Allah set the limit of Satan's power: "This is a path to Me [that is] straight. Indeed, over My servants there is for you no authority, except those who follow you of the deviators" (15:41-42). Reflection: the enemy of humankind has sworn openly, yet he admits himself that there is a fortress he cannot breach — the heart of a servant sincere to Allah. Sincerity is protection; the purer a servant's intention, the smaller the opening for Satan's whisper.
