Episode 7: The Angel Guests and the Glad Tidings of Ishaq

And Our messengers (the angels) came to Ibrahim with glad tidings. They said, "Peace." He answered, "Peace," and hastened to bring a roasted calf (11:69). But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he grew wary and felt a fear of them. They said, "Do not fear; indeed, we have been sent to the people of Luth" (11:70). Only then did Ibrahim understand that they were angels. His wife was standing [nearby], and she smiled in wonder. So We gave her glad tidings of Ishaq (Isaac), and after Ishaq, Ya'qub (Jacob) (11:71). His wife said in amazement, "How astonishing! Shall I bear a child when I am old and my husband is very old? This is truly a strange thing" (11:72). The angels answered, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allah? That is the mercy and blessings of Allah upon you, O people of this house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable" (11:73). Reflection: from Ibrahim's aged household, Allah brought forth a lineage of prophets. No decree of Allah should cause astonishment — for nothing at all is impossible for Him.
