Episode 1: Idris, a Man of Truth Raised to a High Station

Among the names of the prophets Allah mentions in the Qur'an, there is one named with brief yet mighty praise. Allah said, "And mention in the Book (the Qur'an) Idris. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet" (Qur'an 19:56). The word "siddiq" (a man of great truthfulness) points to an extraordinary honesty and firmness in affirming the truth โ€” not merely to believe it, but to live upon it wholly. That is the quality Allah immortalized for Idris. Then Allah mentioned the honor He gave him, "And We raised him to a high station" (19:57) โ€” a noble rank Allah appointed for this servant of His. Reflection: true honor comes from Allah, and it is granted to those who are truthful in affirming the truth. The Qur'an does not lengthen the story of Idris with tales, but two qualities โ€” a man of truth and a prophet โ€” suffice to immortalize his name for all time.
