Episode 5: The Prayer of Ibrahim and Isma'il for the Ummah

โณ Audio is being processed โ€” you can listen online for now.
After raising the foundations of the Ka'bah, Ibrahim and Isma'il did not pray for themselves alone, but for the descendants and the nations to come. Allah said, "Our Lord, and make us Muslims [submitting] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [submitting] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful" (Qur'an 2:128). They then prayed for a messenger to be sent from among their descendants โ€” a prayer Allah would later answer with the sending of Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ. "Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise" (2:129). Reflection: a true believer does not stop at his own interest. The prayer of Ibrahim and Isma'il pierced through the ages โ€” they prayed for the good of a people not yet born. This is the breadth of the prophets' hearts: to hope for guidance not only for themselves, but for all of humankind until the end of time.
