No article of faith is more often misunderstood than faith in qada and qadar. Some people think it is the teaching of surrender that kills business; Others reject it because they feel that their lives are determined one-sidedly. Both are wrong โ€” and understanding fate correctly produces the most resilient humans. Scholars explain four levels of faith in destiny. First, al-science: Allah knows everything before it happens. Second, al-kitabah: everything is written in Lawah Mahfuzh (QS Al-Hadid: 22). Third, al-masyi'ah: nothing happens outside His will. Fourth, al-khalq: Allah is the creator of everything, including the servant's actions - while the servant still has the will and choice for which he is given reward or sin. Islam rejects two extreme poles: thinking that humans are forced to be like puppets without choices, and thinking that humans create their own destiny independently of Allah. The truth is in the middle: we make efforts seriously because we are commanded, then accept the results with pleasure because it is His decree. Umar bin Khattab was once asked when avoiding a plague area: "Are you running from Allah's destiny?" He answered: "We are running from Allah's destiny towards Allah's destiny." Effort and destiny never conflict. The fruit of faith in destiny is peace that cannot be bought. Rasulullah shallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: "The affairs of a believer are truly amazing; all his affairs are good for him. If he gets blessings he is grateful, and that is good for him. If he encounters difficulties he is patient, and that is good for him" (HR Muslim). He also advised: if something happens to you, don't say "if only I had done this" - because the word "if only" opens the door to the devil's whispers. The passing fortune is not the wrong way; the disaster that comes is not without count. What we are responsible for is only our efforts and attitude - and it is on these two things that our value before Allah is determined.
