If he prays standing, pray standing, and when he bows, bow down, and when he raises, rise up, and when he says, God hears whomever Praise Him, so say, “Our Lord, all praise be to You.” And if he prays sitting, then pray sitting, all together.

Ahmad bin Yunus told us, Zaida told us, Musa bin Abi Aisha told us, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abdullah, he said: I entered upon Aisha. So I said to her, “Don’t you tell me about the illness of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace?” She said, “Yes, the weight of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace,” and he said, “The people pray.” We said, “No, they are waiting for you, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Put water in the basin for me.” She said, so we did so, so he washed, then he went to the water and fainted. Then he woke up and said, “The people have prayed.” We said, “No, they are waiting for you, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Put water in the caddy for me.” So we did, and then he went. Then he fainted, then he woke up and said, “The people have prayed.” We said, “No, they are waiting for you, O Messenger of God.” She said, “And the people were gathered in the mosque.” They are waiting for the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, for the last evening prayer. She said, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent for Abu Bakr. To lead the people in prayer. She said, so the Messenger came to him and said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, commands you to lead the people in prayer.” Abu Bakr said. He was a gentle man. O Omar, lead people in prayer. Omar said to him, “You have more right to that.” So Abu Bakr led them in prayer in those days. She said, “Then The Messenger of God found lightness in himself, so he went out between two men, one of whom was Al-Abbas for the noon prayer, and Abu Bakr was leading the people in prayer. When Abu Bakr went to be late, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, motioned to him not to be late and told them to make me sit next to him, so they made him sit. Next to Abu Bakr, she said: Then Abu Bakr began to pray while standing with the prayer of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, while the people prayed with Abu Bakr’s prayer. While the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was sitting, Ubayd Allah said, “So I entered upon Abdullah bin Abbas and told him, ‘Should I not show you what Aisha told me? About the illness of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he said, “Bring her.” I presented her story to him, but he did not deny anything about it except that he said, “She named the man for you.” The one who was with Al-Abbas, I said no, and he said, “It is Ali bin Abi Talib.”

Abu Muammar Ismail bin Ibrahim told us, on the authority of Abd al-Aziz bin Abi Hazim, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Sahl bin Saad, who said: I saw the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, sat on the pulpit and said the takbir, and the people behind him said the takbir, then he bowed while he was on the pulpit, then he raised his head and the man descended. So he prostrated at the origin of the pulpit, then returned until he finished the last of his prayer. Abu Muhammad said that this is a license for the imam to be higher than his companions. This action is also appreciated in prayer.

Ja`far ibn Aoun informed us, Ismail ibn Abi Khaled informed us, on the authority of Qais, on the authority of Abu Masoud al-Ansari, who said: A man came to the Prophet and prayed. May God bless him and grant him peace. He said, O Messenger of God, by God, I am late for the morning prayer because so-and-so is taking us a long time. I did not see the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He was even angrier in a sermon on that day and said, “O people! Indeed, among you are alienated, so whoever leads the people in prayer, let him depart, for among them is great.” And the weak and the needy
