Abu Asim informed us, Thawr ibn Yazid informed us, Khalid ibn Maadan told me, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Amr, on the authority of Irbad ibn Sariyah. He said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed the dawn prayer for us, then he preached to us an eloquent sermon that made our eyes shed tears and our hearts tremble. Someone said, “O Messenger of God, as if it were a farewell sermon.” He advised us, saying, “I advise you to fear God, listen, and obey, even if he is an Ethiopian slave.” For whoever of you lives after me will see much disagreement, so you must adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the Mahdi, bite upon it with your molars. And beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, and Abu Asim once said: And beware of newly invented matters, for every heresy is an error.

Abu Al-Mughirah told us, Al-Awza’i told us, on the authority of Yunus bin Yazid, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, he said, “Our scholars who passed away used to say ‘I’tisam” With the Sunnah there is salvation, and knowledge is quickly seized, so the life of knowledge is the steadfastness of religion and the world, and in the disappearance of knowledge is the disappearance of all that.

Abu Al-Mughirah told us, Al-Awza’i told us on the authority of Hassan, he said: No people ever innovated an innovation in their religion except that God removed from their Sunnah something similar to it. Then he will not return it to them until the Day of Resurrection.

And they gathered in doubt and denial, but these people differed in their speech, and they gathered in the sword, and I do not see their fate as anything other than Hell. Hammad said, then Ayoub said. At this hadith or at the beginning, and by God he was one of the jurists with understanding, meaning Abu Qilabah.
