The book “The Ruling on Reading the Qur’an for the Dead” by Al-Shuqayri is a study of a legal issue related to the reward for reading the Qur’an reaching the dead. The author reviews the sayings of the commentators, imams of hadith, the four schools of thought, and scholars of fundamentals on this issue, relying on evidence from the Sunnah of the Prophet to explain what the deceased benefits from after his death. The book concludes that what is prescribed in visiting graves is to pray and ask forgiveness for the dead, and not to recite the Qur’an to them.
