صفة جزيرة العرب كتاب وضعه الرحالة والجغرافي أبو محمد الهمْداني في القرن الرابع الهجري (العاشر الميلادي)، يصف فيه جغرافية الجزيرة العربية وحياتها النباتية ويعدّ ما فيها من القرى والقبائل، كما يقيّم فيها «فصاحة» المناطق المختلفة، وفيها ذكر مشهور لقبيلة في اليمن كانت ما تزال تتحدث بلغة عربية جنوبية، سماها المؤلف «حميرية». وهو أشهر مؤلفات الهمداني بعد الإكليل، وهو من آخر كتب الهمداني تأليفاً، فقد ذكر فيه (الإكليل) و (اليعسوب)، و (أسرار الحكمة) في الفلك. …
Translation
The Characteristics of the Arabian Peninsula is a book written by the traveler and geographer Abu Muhammad al-Hamdani in the fourth century AH (tenth century AD). It describes the geography of the Arabian Peninsula and its plant life and enumerates the villages and tribes in it. It also evaluates the “eloquence” of the different regions. It contains a famous mention of a tribe in Yemen that still spoke a southern Arabic language, which the author called “Himyariya.” It is Al-Hamdani’s most famous book after Al-Iklil, and it is one of Al-Hamdani’s last written books, in which he mentioned “Al-Iklil,” “The Dragonfly,” and “The Secrets of Wisdom” in astronomy. …
