كتاب تأملات للكاتب والمفكر الجزائري مالك بن نبي المنشور عام 1961 هو في أغلبه عبارة عن محاضرات ألقيت في عواصم عربية مختلفة وتتناول مشكلة الحضارة والثقافة ومكان العالم العربي الإسلامي والشعوب الإفريقية والآسيوية منهما في ذلك التاريخ. يُجري الكاتب في محاضراته العديد من المقارنات الواقعية ويحدد العناصر التي يراها سبباً في ولادة أو موت حضارة ويحلل المكونات الثقافية التي تكون ثقافة مجتمع معين وتُميزه عن غيره. يصيغ الكاتب الثقافة كمفهوم في كتابه كالآتي: الثقافة هي الجو العام الذي يطبع أسلوب الحياة في مجتمع معين وسلوك الفرد فيه بطابع خاص، يختتلف عن الطابع الذي نجده في حياة مجتمع آخر. (ص. 152)
Translation
The book Reflections by the Algerian writer and thinker Malek Bennabi, published in 1961, is mostly lectures given in various Arab capitals and deals with the problem of civilization and culture and the place of the Arab-Islamic world and the African and Asian peoples therein in that history. In his lectures, the writer makes many realistic comparisons, identifies the elements that he sees as the cause of the birth or death of a civilization, and analyzes the cultural components that make up the culture of a particular society and distinguish it from others. The author formulates culture as a concept in his book as follows: Culture is the general atmosphere that characterizes the way of life in a certain society and the behavior of the individual in it with a special character, different from the character that we find in the life of another society. (p. 152)
