كتاب "اكتفاء القنوع بما هو مطبوع" هو فهرس وأدلة للكتب، يهتم بدراسة اعتناء الإفرنج باللغة العربية وآدابها. يستعرض الكتاب في أبوابه الأولى فروع اللسان السامي، وتاريخ اللغة العربية وانتشارها، وجهود المستشرقين في وضع قواميسها ودراسة نحوها وصرفها، بالإضافة إلى جمعهم للأمثال والحكايات العامية. كما يتناول الباب الثاني الآداب العربية المنقولة، كالشعر الجاهلي والمعلقات ودواوين الشعراء، ليكون مرجعًا ببليوغرافيًا يوثق ما طبع من المؤلفات العربية لدى الإفرنج.
Translation
The book “Being content with what is printed” is an index and directory of books, concerned with studying the interest of the Franks in the Arabic language and its literature. In its first chapters, the book reviews the branches of the Semitic tongue, the history of the Arabic language and its spread, and the efforts of the Orientalists in compiling its dictionaries and studying its grammar and morphology, in addition to their collection of proverbs and colloquial tales. The second chapter also deals with transmitted Arabic literature, such as pre-Islamic poetry, mu’allaqat, and collections of poets, to serve as a bibliographic reference documenting the Arabic works printed by the Franks.
